he problematization of medium in the modern art has led to the radical process of dematerialization of art. Corollary to this is the dilemma that, on the one hand, art turns into philosophy or mere strategy of representation; on the other, art becomes anything, its character pluralistic, its practice pragmatic, its field multicultural. Hence the incommensurability of art and, consequently, the disappearance of traditional art criticism. Art henceforth bears the character of pop products, traumatic, nostalgic, transgressive and nomadic. This, in the bigger part, is rooted in the general predicament of global culture. In such cultural plight, however, art is by no means without significance. Today art may well serve to disclose our most profound existential conundrums illusions, to identify where and how contemporary subject seeks refuge and protection, but also to create alternative power games and networks
