Perubahan ideologi Bahasa: Islam, nasioimalisime, dan literasi di Indonesia dan Malaysia
This paper intends to show that ideology is an important factor in language development dan its decline in a sociolinguistics context. Through historical analysis of the development of the Malay language and Jowl writing systems in Southeast Asia, the authors sought to explore the extent of the influence of Islamization and Islamic ideology to sociolinguistics change of the Malay community. The analysis refers to the periodical development of Malay and Jawi. The author concludes that the progress of tile Malay language with it s writing system (Jawi) in building literacy tradition in the region before the era of colonialism in the 17th century’ can not be separated from the influence of Islamic ideology in at socio-political-economic-cultural landscape of Malay community. Selection of the Malay language as the vehicle for Islamic missionary and massive education is not solely based on its status as lingua franca in tile the archipelago. In contrary, Western political economic colonialism of tile archipelago has been shape the cultural and ideological nature of the population that influence their language attitudes and beliefs. For a long times. Islam has been the main source of unifying ideology and strong cultural identity. But tile colonization has increased the sense of nationalism to form an independent nation state. The spirit of nationalism has encouraged the selection of languages that can unite various ethnic and abandon religious Sellilments. This ideological shift has been well seen in the selection of each Indonesian to be official language of Indonesian and Malaysia and English as the official language of Malaysia
